It has been my pleasure to bring God’s love to the people of Cumberland County, Tennessee for the last week. Beginning last Monday (June 8th), myself and a team of teenagers fixed a porch in Pikeville, TN; built a porch roof in McMinnville, TN; started painting a house and cleaned the exterior of a mobile home in Spencer, TN. We got splinters. We got dirty. We got wet. We got paint on our clothes and on our hands. But most of all, we got to be a blessing to less fortunate families.
This summer I will be organizing a 5-day (Wed-Sun) adult work trip to the Beersheba Springs, Tennessee area. This mission opportunity is available for men and women who want to get down and dirty in God’s work by doing major construction on a home. The cost of the trip will be approximately $350 per person including travel, lodging and meals. We will get dirty. We will sweat and at the end of the day we will ache. And when it is all said and done, we will know that we have been a part of something bigger than ourselves for the betterment of others.
Want to go with me to Beersheba Springs this October? Need more information? Want to be a prayer partner for those who go? Together, we can make a difference.

The aforementioned and ongoing Vehicular Sounding Device Tonal Testing is still in progress. I had hoped for a good number of tests yesterday morning, but with the monsoon rains around 7 a.m. testing was drastically reduced. I did get a decent reading on three vehicles though. A Chevy Impala honked in the key of C. A Nissan honked in the key of B. And a Toyota honked in the key of B as well. My brother volunteered to test his BMW so that will add to our reprotoire. Stephan Hall, a Facebook friend is bringing his car by as well. In fact, he was coming in Tuesday morning but I must have missed him through the sheets of downward traveling precipitation.
Testing will continue at the drive-up window.

Though the theory that car horns honk in the key of F has been tested and found wanting, I am actively seeking more test vehicles to support my theory that foreign vehicles’ sounding devices honk at least 2 notes away from the means of US made vehicles. I am currently seeking volunteers for tonal tests on Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Nissan, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Saab, Smart, Volvo and other “foreign” makes. I am also seeking Dodge, Pontiac, Chrysler, Buick, Oldsmobile, Studebaker, Ford, and other American made tonal testing volunteers.
Hurry now to participate in this exciting opportunity to honk you horn at will!

Having tested 4-count them-quatro, car horns, I can say without reasonable doubt that all car horns DO NOT honk in the key of F. Here are my Horn-Honking-Test results: 1 VW Jetta honks in G sharp; 1 Chevy Tahoe honks in G sharp; 1 VW Jetta honks in D; and 1 Jeep Sahara honks in C sharp. You may have noticed that none of the vehicles honk in F. What can I test next??

According to my sources, most car horns honk in the key of F. Of course “my sources” are at best questionable and mostly unreliable. Seeing the possibility of being wrong I have every intention of testing said key theory on several vehicular sounding devices. Being the geetar player what I am, I have in my possession a digital tuner which I shall methodically and scientifically place on the bumpers of said test cars. I shall then have my sexy assistant (my wife who only puts up with my antics) activate said vehicular sounding device on said test vehicle. The first test shall be conducted on my 2005 Jeep Sahara. The second on my wife’s 2005 PT Cruiser. If I can convince any other unsuspecting drivers to let me test their horns the results of such shall be posted along with the results of the previous vehicular devices. I’ll let you know.

The other day I went to one of the big home improvement centers in hopes of finding plants for my garden spot. Actually, its not “my” garden spot, its my neighbor’s garden spot. Being 93 years young she figured it was time to cut back on the gardening a bit so she invited me to use approximately 1/2 of her garden spot. The particular store I visited in search of plants had an abundance of tomatoes and peppers. They were tempting but after 34 years of marriage I knew enough to not come home with a bunch of pepper and tomato plants. Such behavior on my part would result in me getting “the look” from my better half. Being the Swede/Norwegian/German mix that she is, the aftershock would not be becoming. So I came home from my plant-pursuit defoliaged. But I did manage to get some new tools while I was there! I’ll put up with “the look” for a pneumatic nailer…oh yeah.
